How to come to the Mexico camp.
The Puerto Morelos Dance Camp celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022. Founded by Bernie and Adrianna Heideman, it has become a unique tradition attracting a diverse attendance from North America and Canada during those countries’ winter months, and acting as a connecting event with dancers and Dance leaders in Mexico. The camp also features many offerings from the community that facilitate a deepening experience of connection and the sacred with art, qigong, singing circles, meditation, kirtan, cacao ceremonies, philosophical discussions and of course the beloved Rumi Cafe.
Camp will start Thursday evening, February 13th, and the final Dance session will be Wednesday evening, February 19th. A pre-retreat evening Dance will follow site prep on Wednesday February 12th.
Let’s face it, it is often fear of the unknown that prevents us from taking the first step towards an adventure. I thought if I made the water a little less muddy, you might be inclined to join us dancing on the sand, wading in the ocean, relaxing on the beach, and enjoying the local cuisine. Here goes…..
When is camp?
Puerto Morelos, MX
Winter Dance Camp February 13-19, 2025
With Jen, Zareen, Sky and friends
How do you get there?
Puerto Morelos is 40km south and accessed from the airport of the resort town of Cancun (CUN).
Once you get there all you have to do is get to the dance camp. My experience is that there are a couple ways to get to either of these camps; taxi, shuttle or find another dancer going there that will share a ride with you. I have taken advantage of all of these ways and usually it isn’t very expensive.
Out of Cancun you can catch a shuttle. There is a company CANCUN
SHUTTLE contact@cancunshuttle.com and they have vans that will shuttle just you or a bunch of folks down to Puerto Morelos and it is really cheap if it’s split between riders. Again, I spent 600₽ ($35US) the last time I was down there. And of course you can find other people who are arriving at the same time and ride share that way too.
Speaking the Language
Don’t worry so much about speaking the language. Yes, it is awesome if you know and understand Spanish but don’t let it be a roadblock to your adventure. Google translate is a wonderful app that you can install on your phone and then use it to help you; ask directions, find the right words, and help you communicate when you need it. English is also widely understood especially in Puerto Morelos.
When you are with the dance community at the event, there is no doubt you will be doing things, eating out and wondering about with people who are familiar with the area or know enough of the language to help.
Money
Once you get to town there are ATM machines that will give you Peso’s at a fairly good exchange rate but will also charge a small fee just for using the ATM. No doubt you have experienced this when you use ATMs in cities that don’t have your bank branch. Also give your bank a heads up that you will be traveling so they don’t pull an unexpected prank and freeze your card. See the video below about exchange rates.
How much will you need? That all depends on how much you want to spend. There are grocery stores to buy the food you need if you have a refrigerator and cook facilities in your lodging.
Lodging
Camp staff has rented a full motel on the beach this year. So lodging is as easy as contacting the registrar. Bring-your-own-roommate and cost is quite low.

Dancing
You can expect 60-80 people at camp. If you’ve been to any dance circles with us you’ll be sure to immediately see people you know. Dancing in this field of love is an amazing experience with fabulous leaders.
Spread the love!
