Come celebrate harmony and movement with the Dances of Universal Peace in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. This year we are coming back to this lovely town full of hot springs and a blossoming spiritual community in southern Idaho. Our dance event is in July when camping is great. We’ll be dancing in our thirty foot tent on our new dance pad up in the cool trees at Kim’s cabin. Lots of camping spots are available on the property, and the town is full of great small motels for those who like a comfy bed. Come enjoy community in song and music for four days.

Still only $50 per person for 2025!

About the Dance

The Dances of Universal Peace are a powerful practice to find our true joyous being in community. These simple dances are inspired by the many spiritual traditions of the world. No experience or partner needed! Each dance and song is simple and taught as we go.

This type of dance is magic because it can’t be done without you! Finally a practice that doesn’t have you as a spectator! You will be right in the circle with a group of loving humans creating music while we move.

In the Dances of Universal Peace you are the music. We all sing and move together and that’s what creates the magic. Nothing else is needed.

Setup is on Wednesday with take down Sunday morning. See the schedule below.

Partial Attendance?

You are welcome to attend partial days. Donations accepted at camp… or just come try it out.

Details

We’ll be at the campsite early on Wednesday for setting up. People are welcome to come get a camp spot and settled in early. First dance session is Thursday evening. Our musical instruments will be out and of course we’ll jam Wednesday and Thursday morning in the tent. If lots of people are there we will definitely kick up our heels. Last dance is on Sunday morning.

Our dance spot is located just outside the city limits of Lava Hot Springs. Up in the cool trees and yet close to hot springs. We have a map and detailed directions below. The cabin is a ten minute drive from camping or motels in town.

Camping will be free at the tent site. For those who like comfort and being close to hot pools there are plenty of hotels in town. There is also a RV resort just down the road from the tent spot. Google for Trout Haven in Lava.

Musicians

As you arrive at camp please let us know about your musicianship! We coordinate experienced leaders into our dance sessions, often on the fly. We’ll also have a dance/music/kirtan jam in the afternoons. We want to know how to help you in your local circle!

SCHEDULE & DETAILS

All campers will have access to a Whatsap group so we can easily share schedule changes.

Dance Location

We’ll be dancing in our tent this year in a lovely canyon cabin on Smith Canyon Road: 13293 S Smith Canyon Road. Food and lodging is not included in the retreat price, but we have great places to camp and can help you set up.

Here’s our lovely tent spot all ready to go!

How to get there

If you need any help planning your travels to Lava Hot Springs please check out the Lava Chamber of Commerce.

Flying into the Salt lake Airport is usually an easy flight from anywhere because it is a hub airport. The Salt Lake Express will bring you up to McCammon and we can help arrange a ride up to Lava (approx 20 miles). They have super comfortable busses with easy schedules and will pick you up right at the airport.

Here’s a link to the shuttle site. To see their rates and schedules choose to go from Salt Lake City (airport) UT to McCammon (Exit 47) ID. https://saltlakeexpress.com/

Driving

Lava Hot Springs is south of Idaho Falls/Pocatello, and north of Salt Lake city off of I25.

Turn East at McCammon to US 30. 11 minute drive.

To the Tent From Lava

GPS should take you to the campsite: 13293 S. Smith Canyon Road, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Here’s directions from downtown Lava:

Head west on W Main St/Maughan Rd toward Center St — 0.3 mi

Turn left onto 4th Ave W/E Merrick Rd – 1.6 mi

Turn right onto S Dempsey Creek Rd/E Merrick Rd — 0.4 mi

Turn left onto S Dempsey Creek Rd — 1.2 mi

Turn right onto S Newbold Rd/S Smith Canyon Rd — 1.2 mi

Look for a rustic gateway with 13293. Over a two-track culvert into the yard.

Camp on Site

We are camping up in the cool trees in Smith Canyon. There is lots of room for tent and car camping. Space for RVs is limited.

We have lovely potable water available in one shared outdoor spigot. We’ll have a solar shower available. Best showers and bathing is down in the hot pools in town! It’s hot in the day, but delightfully cool in the evenings after our last dance session.

Cars/Vans: Plan on your spot not being exactly flat. You’ll be able to get level for sleeping if you have some leveling blocks. Lots of shade in the trees.

Tents: Your tent will likely be not exactly flat… so plan for your own comfort. Plenty of spots in the cool shade.

Cabin Rooms:

There are five rooms available in Kim’s cabin. 1 shared bathroom, shower and kitchen. It’s a rustic cabin. You must book your spot with Zareen and Wayne. Bring your own bedding.

Motels

Lava has many motels to choose from. The Chamber of Commerce website for Lava has listings of all the local motels. http://www.lavahotsprings.org

There is a full service RV campground a few miles from camp: Smiths Trout Haven

The motel complex that used to be called Auro Soma, with the big private hot pool, is now the Lava hotel. https://thelavahotel.com/. If you stay there you get free use of the private pool.

We also have a wonderful flat camping spot at Grace’s property just down the hill from the dance cabin. Tons of flat ground for tents. There is one electric pole which can plug in two RVs. No water or shade available… but it’s nice and cool at night. Grace is asking for a donation to her nonprofit to stay there: https://www.centerforawakening.com.

Food

All meals are do-it-yourself. There are restaurants in town and we’ll have plenty of room near the tent for camping kitchens. Good potable water available.

We’ll be having shared “Bring your own sack dinner” gatherings.
