Driggs Idaho Zikr
May 11 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Join us for an evening of the Ancient practice of Zikr with Zareen and Wayne. Simple movements and mantras are the magic elixir to slow us down enough so that awakening can reveal itself. The inner being opens like a flower blooming in the forest.
Why: We are taught from birth that we are separate entities and this leaves an ache in the heart. The simple act of moving in a circle with our fellow human beings drops the illusion of separation and aligns us with the ground of being.
What: This is a two-hour practice of unity using simple chants from spiritual traditions of the world, focusing on the poetic simplicity of Sufi mantras. No partner or experience needed. Whether you are a long time meditator, practitioner of mindfullness or true beginner on the spiritual path the zikr circle welcomes you into a horizontal alignment with being. In other words… it’s easy and fun!
Sign up Now for an evening of harmony and meeting being beyond mind. Song and movement are the opening keys to relation.
ZIKR PRACTICE
History: Zikr is an ancient practice of remembrance from the Sufi tradition. In essence, it is the experience of humans becoming one in movement. The traditional joy of aligning oneself with god has evolved into a modern zikr practice that aligns with the vast unity of the universe itself.
Remembrance: This practice comes from the ancient whirling dervishes of the middle east and is inspired by the heart of Rumi who spun around a pole in ecstacy chanting poems of his unity with all. In Zikr we do this with each other. Humans have always danced in a circle in celebration and ceremony of our unity to all things. In a Zikr dance we focus attention on remembering who we are as the “I Am That” of being in the place of no separation.
When we remember who we are we open up our full relationship with earth as the mother. This is the open heart we need to slow down enough so that the life of earth can start repairing herself again, welcoming us back as the earth children we are meant to be.
Circle Dancing: Specifically… Zikr is a two-hour circle dance with melody so beautiful, movement of such ease, and words so gentle that we need not pause. We join hands and move together as one, allowing true being to arise.
DANCE FOR HEALTH
Easing Stress: Human beings are not designed to live in the constant stress of separation, competition, and noise we are bombarded with in modern life. An evening of Zikr is designed to relax us into the heart space where we long to dwell. This calms the nervous system, relaxes the mind and let’s our natural health arise.
True Heart: The natural human being lived a life with time to snuggle up in the laps of others. Back in the day of the ancient tribes we were surrounded with care. Moving in a circle together drops us into this primitive space surrounded by friends and family… even complete strangers become instant friends.
Inner Stillness: The constant noise of modern life is both within and without. We are designed to enjoy a silent stillness inside, as well as a life surrounded by bird calls and flowing water. Many of us find our bodies in rebellion at the incessant abuse of too much. It takes a moment to relax out of this constant stress. Spending a few hours in movement and song with our family is a marvelous elixir to the soul.
Enhancing Your Path: Coming together for an evening of Zikr dancing enhances the journey of any spiritual path by giving us that moment of unity with the divine. Traditional Sufi wisdom says that praying by yourself can being the person into harmony with god. But praying and dancing with others surrounds us with a host of angels.
WHAT WE DO
Start With An Open Room: The space opens up for people to arrive at 1:30. As you enter there may be a bustle of instruments being set up, and friends meeting friends. If you are new, come on in and say Hi to Zareen and Wayne who will be setting up guitars… we may even get you to carry something because we are all family here.
Balanced Walking: Zareen and Wayne start the dance with light strums on the guitar as we begin walking around the room, getting to know the space. You can expect light talking, and even hugs as people smile and greet each other.
Join Hands: The circle joins hands and Zareen starts us with a very simple tune and movements. The act of moving as a circle drops us easily into the natural heart. The evening will be one long song with many movements. Everyone is free to step out for what ever you may need: drink, a pause, or to move to a different spot in the circle. The song keeps going and you can come right back in.
Closing: The dance comes to an end before 4:00 so that we have time to talk, enjoy our new friends, and cookies and tea!
