This month, December, we want to talk about musicianship. What’s the history of musicians in the Dances? What’s their role? How does a leader work with musicians?

Early Dances, as brought through by Murshid SAM, did not have much musical support; it’s something that has grown over the years as the Dances have evolved. There are papers on the DUP IN website about musicianship (we highly recommend this one by Peter Munir Reynolds: https://dancesofuniversalpeace.org/posts/articles-papers-musicianship-for-the-dances-of-universal-peace-notes-by-peter-munir-reynolds) and musicians can join the guild as musician mentees, but not a lot of attention is placed on what the role of a musician is in a Dance session, how to be a supportive attuned musician, or how to work with musicians as a leader.  

Zareen and Sky are both experienced Dance musicians as well as leaders, and we hope to have some other experienced Dance musicians with us as we explore this topic, which is huge. Join us and let’s see where the conversation goes.
