Hello and thanks for reading the Live at Lava Newsletter!
Today I was up in our apple trees picking a bounty of apples. Yes! I’ll be bringing boxes of them to Lava. We’ll eat a bunch, and if I get them all picked, there will be plenty for folks to take home. So come with some extra space in yoru car. My apples are a little strange looking, but they are delicious and totally organic. All they have had on them is water and good fresh Idaho soil.
Local Food
Does anyone else have any garden bounty to bring along to camp? Please reply to this email and let me know what you are storing up and willing to bring along.
We’ll also be having our Saturday bazaar. Everyone at camp has expressed a high value for homegrown and locally grown food, so feel free to sell your produce at the bazaar. Having the retreat in November makes sharing our bounty so much easier.
Garbage Warroir
Inspiring movie of the week: Garbage Warrior(link is external)
This is a documentary about the architect in Taos New Mexico who has created communities of “Earthships.” Imagine living in a house that is not only completely off the grid, but gives you complete freedom. The house collects enough water to live on from rain (even in New Mexico!) and recycles everything. But there’s more… the perfect environment for people is also perfect for plants. You can grow your food right in your house! And to top that off… it’s made from many recycled “garbage” items.
The Garbage Warrior himself is just nuts. I watched that movie and was actually ashamed of myself! Like, lots of people think I’m nuts, but I’m nothing compared to this guy! I think it’s time to step up my game!
November 1, 2 and 3 – Six Weeks!
