DESCRIPTION:Free or donation… Click here to let us know you are coming.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCome sing and celebrate with us. \n\n\n\nKirtan is an ancient practice of praise from the Sikh tradition. It is in the form of simple melodies and mantras sung as call and response so no training or experience needed. This is a simple and relaxing way to access your inner true nature in an atmosphere of joy. \n\n\n\nWe share a universal repertoire with tunes from the many traditions of the world including: native chants\, Gospel praise\, Buddhist prayer\, and traditional Hindu mantras. \n\n\n\nThe evening will be led by Zareen and Wayne from Salmon Idaho. Zareen and Wayne lead Dances of Universal Peace and Kirtan sing-a-longs around the country and hold several weekend events in Idaho each year. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are always looking for musicians to join in the band. So bring your acoustic instruments. Our music is easy to learn and we’ll give you everything you need to join in. \n\n\n\nThe Blue House\n\n\n\nThe event will be held in the Blue House Pocatello Spiritual & Wellness Center which is refurbished farm house in west Pocatello. This year we are coming back to this lovely town full of hot springs and a blossoming spiritual community in southern Idaho. This year our dance event is in July when camping is great so we’ll be dancing in our tent. Lots of camping spots are nearby\, and the town is full of great small motels for those who like a comfy bed. Turn right on the Main Street which is called Maughan Road. Follow this road west until you are just out of town and the road swings to the left. There is a driveway down to the right and you’ll see campers and our big white tent. \n\n\n\nThe Cabin: 13293 S Smith Canyon Road \n\n\n\nGPS coordinates: 42.570826\, -112.047184 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the dance\n\n\n\nThe Dances of Universal Peace are a powerful practice to find our true joyous being in community. These simple dances are inspired by the many spiritual traditions of the world. No experience or partner needed! Each dance and song is taught as we go. \n\n\n\nThe dance is magic because it can’t be done without you! Finally a practice that doesn’t have you as a mere spectator. You will be right in the circle\, with a group of loving humans creating music while we move.  \n\n\n\nYes… the camp is very inexpensive. This is because we love what we do. We all sing and move together and that’s what creates the magic. We’ll be on the outskirts of town overlooking the valley. We’ll be at the campsite early on Wednesday the 26th for setting up and so everyone can get settled. First dance on Thursday evening\, and last dance on Sunday morning.  \n\n\n\nIt’s hot in the afternoons\, but cools off quickly at night. It’s not sweltering at night\, but cool and pleasant for camping. Private and open\, yet close to hot springs. Below is a map to help orient.  \n\n\n\nCamping will be free at the tent site. For those who like comfort and being close to hot pools there are plenty of hotels in town.  \n\n\n\nWe have some limited electricity on the land\, but no water. So bring plenty of water. A short ten minute drive will take us to the cool trees for afternoon workshops and a shared dinner. There is an easily accessible spigot for water.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirections to the Cabin\n\n\n\nFrom the Tent spot:  \n\n\n\nTurn left onto Maughan road. \n\n\n\nTurn right onto 4th street\, which is also called Merrick Road. \n\n\n\nFollow Merrick road\, out of town\, around a few curves. You’ll see the golf course on the right.  \n\n\n\nTurn left onto S Dempsey Creek Road \n\n\n\nTurn Right onto S. Smith Canyon Road (also called Newbold Rd on maps). You’re heading towards Pocrupine Pass.  \n\n\n\nYou’ll come up into the trees\, past several house on both sides.  \n\n\n\nLook for our Dances of Universal Peace sign on the Right. \n\n\n\nTurn into the small driveway.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMap\n\n\n\nIn the map\, below\, the red pin is right as you pull into town… the Senior Center where we used to dance. The green pin shows the tent spot property which is on the outskirts of town\, and quite close to hotsprings. There is plenty of room to camp.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFood and Lodging\n\n\n\nWe’ll be dancing in our tent this year in Lava. Food and lodging is not included in the retreat price\, but we have great places to camp and can help you set up.  \n\n\n\nCamping is free. For those who like comfort\, and being close to hot pools\, there are plenty of hotels in town. \n\n\n\nFood will be on your own with a shared sack-dinner on Thursday\, Friday and Saturday. Bring your camping gear and favorite eats. Good restaurants and a grocery store are in town. \n\n\n\nMotels\n\n\n\nRooms are not included in the retreat package\, so make sure you have your motel reservations set up if you aren’t camping. The Chamber of Commerce website for Lava has listings of all the local motels. http://www.lavahotsprings.org \n\n\n\nRV Park: There is a large green RV park two blocks from our tent spot. https://www.smithstrouthaven.com/ \n\n\n\nThe motel complex that used to be called Auro Soma\, with the big private hot pool\, is now the Lava hotel. https://thelavahotel.com/. This venue gives you access to the Auro Soma private hot pool.  \n\n\n\nFor those more rugged folks we have plenty of free camping space near the tent. \n\n\n\nMusicians\n\n\n\nAs you arrive at camp please let us know about your musicianship! We coordinate experienced leaders into our dance sessions\, often on the fly. We’ll also have a dance/music jam in the afternoons. We want to know how to help you in your local circle! \n\n\n\nSoaking\n\n\n\nThe Public hot pools in Lava are open from 8am to 11pm. Passes can be bought on site or online: https://lavahotsprings.com/hotpools/ \n\n\n\nThe Olympic pool is open 10am to 8pm.  \n\n\n\nBring a swim suit! \n\n\n\nSCHEDULE & DETAILS \n\n\n\nAll campers will have access to a Whatsap group so we can easily share schedule changes.  \n\n\n\nWednesday – July 26th This will be a set up day for camp. Feel free to arrive in Lava and get set up. The camping area is located a short distance from downtown as well as to local overnight accommodations. Zareen and Wayne will be available either on site of easily accessible by phone. Feel free to contact us to let us know you’re in town.  \n\n\n\n8:00 pm Evenong jam \n\n\n\nThursday – July 27th8:45 am – Gather in the tent. Our first dance will be 9:00am  (before it gets too hot!). Theme: Sam Lewis and his vision of Universal Peace.  \n\n\n\n12:00 ish – Head up into the trees where it’s cool. We will arrange carpools as parking is limited at the cabin. Bring your own sack lunch\, or grab a meal before you come up as dinner will not be until five o’clock.  \n\n\n\n2:00 pm – Deeper dance discussion and Kirtan sing-along at the cabin (nice and cool!). Theme: history of the dances\, Sam Lewis\, Hazrat Inayat Khan\, and Ruth St. Dennis.  \n\n\n\n5:00 pm – Dinner in the trees. Camp will provide an Insta-pot of Lentil soup\, crackers\, and cheese. We’ll be using paper plates and bowls this year because washing up in limited. Bring what you need for yourself\, and/or simple foods to share. Suggestions: Salad\, fruit\, Chips\, humus\, rollups\, Avocado\, carrots\, cookies\, muffins\, bagels\, cream cheese. Basically… think of a bring your own sack dinner. Remember… refrigeration and wash up facilities are limited. \n\n\n\n8:00 pm – Sun sets behind the hill and it cools off quick. Evening dance will be from 8pm – 10:00pm.  \n\n\n\nIt’ll be nice and cool for soaking. Public pool stays open until 11.  \n\n\n\nFriday – July 28th \n\n\n\n8:45 am – Gather in the tent. Dance starts at 9:00 am. Friday’s theme will be: Native wisdom and how it helps us deal with conflict in our communities and ourselves.  \n\n\n\n12:00 ish – Head up into the trees where it’s cool. We will arrange carpools as parking is limited at the cabin.  Bring your own sack lunch\, or grab a meal before you come up as dinner will not be until five o’clock.  \n\n\n\n2:00 pm – Afternoon class expanding on the topic of Native wisdom. The difference in being or becoming.  Sing-along.  \n\n\n\n5:00 pm – Dinner in the trees: Camp will provide an Insta-pot of Tuna Casserole. It will have tuna\, cream and cheese. We’ll be using paper plates and bowls this year because washing up is limited.  Bring what you need for yourself\, and/or simple foods to share. Suggestions: Salad\, fruit\, Chips\, humus\, Avocado\, carrots\, cookies\, muffins\, rollups\, etc. Basically… think of a bring your own sack dinner. Remember… refrigeration and wash up facilities are limited. \n\n\n\n8:00 pm – Evening dance will be from 8pm – 10:00pm.  \n\n\n\nIt’ll be nice and cool for soaking. Bring your own sack lunch\, or grab a meal before you come up as dinner will not be until five.  \n\n\n\n2:00 pm – Dance deepening & Kirtan. How meditation and mantras work\, and how to go beyond those in our lives (some brain science will be involved!).  \n\n\n\n5:00 pm – Dinner in the trees: Camp will provide an Insta-pot of Chicken and Rice. It will be caned chicken\, brown rice and veggies. We’ll be using paper plates and bowls this year because washing up in limited.  Bring what you need for yourself\, and/or simple foods to share. Suggestions: Rollups\, Salad\, fruit\, Chips\, humus\, Avocado\, carrots\, cookies\, muffins\, etc. Basically… think of a bring your own sack dinner.  \n\n\n\n8:00 pm – Evening Zikr from 8pm – 10pm.  \n\n\n\nPublic pool stays open until 11.  \n\n\n\nSunday – July 30th \n\n\n\n8:45 am – Gather in the tent. Dance 9:00 – 11 am. Theme: Oneness & why non-duality can be so funny. \n\n\n\n11:00 ish – Tent comes down! \n\n\n\nDeparture\n\n\n\nWe will eat\, dance and pray together through the weekend with plenty of time for soaking in the hot springs.
