The Hamilton Mystic Dance Camp is led by the Montana Dances of Universal Peace team and more! This diverse team will carry us through many spiritual traditions of the world in the ancient practice of community circle dance. \n\n\n\nWhat We Do\n\n\n\nNo experience or partner needed. Each dance is taught in place: we are given a short song\, easy steps\, and the meaning (or attunement) of what we are doing. We do songs from a wide variety of sources: native\, Christianity\, Judaism or eastern Sufi practices. Often they are simple chants or inspiring poems. \n\n\n\nThe magic is the circle. Each person (you included) is what creates this magic. Humans evolved singing and celebrating in circle dance. As soon as you step into the circle you’ll know you are home. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat’s it Like? Dancing with us is like joining a tribe. When we first come together we often don’t know each other’s names\, but become immediate brothers and sisters.  The music brings us together. The camp is held by elder wisdom with experienced leaders who have been doing this for over thirty years. Often something new like this can be uncomfortable\, but we know how to bring you in with a smooth transition from aloneness to togetherness. There is an essence in every human being that yearns for togetherness. We use our feet\, simple music and ancient wisdom to create a moving space of heart. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur Dance Tent Creates a Magical Environment\n\n\n\nCome together: Dancers can start arriving at camp on Friday\, Sept 8th. First dance will be Friday evening and the last dance will be Sunday morning. We will be treated with meals from Homestead Organics local food.  \n\n\n\nTent setup will start on Thursday noonish. There is room for camping on the farm\, and there are motels nearby in town to stay. \n\n\n\nFrom Zareen: My goal for this camp is to provide an inexpensive space where we can all come together\, sing\, dance\, and dive deeper into new possibilities. We are inclusive of the traditions of the world and each other. Most importantly\, we use this time to recreate ourselves into co-creating relatives of the world rather than individual consumers. The overall vision is to come alive in new ways and jumpstart a dynamic participation in life that transforms the world… in other words: Sam Lewis’s Peace Project. \n\n\n\nAbout our dates and location\n\n\n\nOur event location opens up on Friday Sept 8th\, and stays available through Sunday. We will be raising the tent on Thursday. You are certainly welcome to arrive on Thursday and help set up for camp if you want to join in the tent fun. We’ll be finishing the tent setup on Friday morning so this is time for the decorating crew. The last dance will be on Sunday and we all participate in taking down the tent in a fun community project. \n\n\n\nFood\n\n\n\nPlan on meals on your own. First dance on Thursday evening\, and last dance on Sunday morning.  \n\n\n\nIt’s hot in the afternoons\, but cools off quickly at night. It’s not sweltering at night\, but cool and pleasant for camping. For those who like comfort and being close to hot pools there are plenty of hotels in town.  \n\n\n\nWe have some limited electricity on the land\, but no water. So bring plenty of water. A short ten minute drive will take us to the cool trees for afternoon workshops and a shared dinner. There is an easily accessible spigot for water.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirections to the Cabin\n\n\n\nFrom the Tent spot:  \n\n\n\nTurn left onto Maughan road. \n\n\n\nTurn right onto 4th street\, which is also called Merrick Road. \n\n\n\nFollow Merrick road\, out of town\, around a few curves. You’ll see the golf course on the right.  \n\n\n\nTurn left onto S Dempsey Creek Road \n\n\n\nTurn Right onto S. Smith Canyon Road (also called Newbold Rd on maps). You’re heading towards Pocrupine Pass.  \n\n\n\nYou’ll come up into the trees\, past several house on both sides.  \n\n\n\nLook for our Dances of Universal Peace sign on the Right. \n\n\n\nTurn into the small driveway.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nMap\n\n\n\nIn the map\, below\, the red pin is right as you pull into town… the Senior Center where we used to dance. The green pin shows the tent spot property which is on the outskirts of town\, and quite close to hotsprings. There is plenty of room to camp.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFood and Lodging\n\n\n\nWe’ll be dancing in our tent this year in Lava. Food and lodging is not included in the retreat price\, but we have great places to camp and can help you set up.  \n\n\n\nCamping is free. For those who like comfort\, and being close to hot pools\, there are plenty of hotels in town. \n\n\n\nFood will be on your own with a shared sack-dinner on Thursday\, Friday and Saturday. Bring your camping gear and favorite eats. Good restaurants and a grocery store are in town. \n\n\n\nMotels\n\n\n\nRooms are not included in the retreat package\, so make sure you have your motel reservations set up if you aren’t camping. The Salmon Wild River Camp is led by fabulous Dances of Universal Peace leaders from Idaho\, Montana… and even Tennessee this year! This diverse team will carry us through the many spiritual traditions of the world in the ancient practice of community circle dance.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat We Do\n\n\n\nNo experience or partner needed. Each dance is taught in place: we are given a short song\, easy steps\, and the meaning (or attunement) of what we are doing. We do songs from a wide variety of sources: native\, Christianity\, Judaism or eastern Sufi practices. Often they are simple chants or inspiring poems.  \n\n\n\nThe magic is the circle. Each person (you included) is what creates the magic. Humans evolved singing and celebrating in circle dance. As soon as you step into the circle you’ll know you are home.  \n\n\n\nMusicians\n\n\n\nAs you arrive at camp please let us know about your musicianship! We have a 30 foot round tent which is a magical place to camp. Perhaps things we haven’t really thought about\, such as: How science and spirituality intersect\, the conditioned mind and community issues\, the non-dual wisdom of Turtle Island. We honor the importance of giving indigenous people space to recreate themselves after generations of trauma rather than appropriating ceremonies we don’t understand. Most importantly\, how we use this time to also recreate ourselves into co-creating relatives of the world rather than individual consumers. Warning: Store is completely closed on Sunday!\n\n\n\nGood Fellows Bakery: A fantastic artisan bakery. Great lunches. Amazing bread. Main street\, north side.\n\n\n\nBertram’s Brewery: Great lunches\, dinners and home brew. South side of Main Street. \n\n\n\nNature’s Pantry: Health Food store. Closed Sunday\,\n\n\n\nCountry Store: Up on the “Bar Hill” on Courthouse Drive: Local milk\, eggs\, cheese and yogurt.\n\n\n\nFarmer’s Market Saturday morning: in the park by the bridge.\n\n\n\n\nLodging\n\n\n\nThere is lots of room to camp near the tent. Lots of room for campers and RVs. No hookups. Good motels are in town approx. 5 miles from where we camp (Salmon is small).  \n\n\n\nTwo small rooms are available on the ranch\, and there are three rooms available in Wayne and Connie’s house in town. Each room is an additional $200 per person\, for all four days. \n\n\n\nTo reserve these rooms text Wayne: 208-756-8137 \n\n\n\nOther Lodging in Salmon\, approx 5 miles\n\n\n\n\nStagecoach Inn: This is the nicest motel in town. Website 208-756-8880\n\n\n\nAndrea’s RV Park. They are right on the river and have RV hookups. They also have one small “hostel” cabin. Website 208-756-2063\n\n\n\nRiver Front Inn… I think that’s the new name… Used to be Wagons West and that’s how you find it on Google. Very cheap motel\, but right on the river and nice folks. It’s only cheap because the building is really old. 208-756-4281. Waiting for them to call back with rates.\n\n\n\nBear Country Inn: Down on Main Street. A new motel. $70 and up. http://bearcountryinnsalmon.com 208-756-1499\n\n\n\nSacajawea Inn: I think this is the cheapest motel\, or equal to River Front Inn. It’s not trashy. This motel is on the south side of Salmon\, so it is the shortest drive to the tent spot.  Nice people. 208-756-2294 (I think)\n\n\n\n\nFind the Dance\n\n\n\nWe’ll be dancing in our 30′ tent. Bring your own chair. There isn’t lots of room to have chairs for everyone in the tent\, but lots of room outside in the meadow. It may be cool in June but we have a stove for our tent. If it’s cool we can also build a nice outdoor fire for evenings. Both are guidesin the Sufi Ruhaniat International. Their work with the 99 Beautiful Names of Allah\,or as Maboud would like to say\, “the qualities of our potential for wholeness\,” hastouched people throughout the world. She has performed on stage\, most notably as the drummer and percussionist for a month-long run of the theatre production Arabian Nights at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins. \n\n\n\nJim Grant found the Dances of Universal Peace in 1991. He has been a dancer\, drummer and on the board of directors of their non-profit. He studied doumbek\, riqq\, tar\, djembe and dounouba with master drummers. He was a founding member of world-groove band Tuatha\, which recorded 4 CDs worth of original music. \n\n\n\n\nMarsha Marberry has been teaching Viniyoga\, with her husband\, in their home studio for 15years. Viniyoga is a therapeutic form of yoga involving coordination of breath withmovement(asana). We can also organize carpools from the Missoula airport over to camp. \n\n\n\nCome solo\, with friends or with your whole family!! \n\n\n\nWe dance\, relax\, play\, and connect with our universal family\, familiar or new\, young or old. The Dancing is sweet\, surrounded by incredible views and enclosed in warmth and smiles. \n\n\n\nWe welcome children and young adults to dance in our circle\, but they are also free to gather and play in a separate\, usually supervised\, area. We dance together at three different times\, plus have a zikr Saturday night. \n\n\n\nSaturday afternoon is free for hiking\, art\, clothing exchange\, discussion\, or whatever individuals care to organize. After dancing many like to soak in the hot tub under the stars or snowflakes.  \n\n\n\nFood: The Camp Mak-A-Dream staff will prepare the meals for us and do the dishes.  \n\n\n\nLodging is dormitory style in warm comfortable dormitories. What’s bad and what’s good? Who am I and how should I live? How does this idea fit with that idea? \n\n\n\nThis confusion we face is the result of the stories that we’ve been told about who we are as humans. Our story has created a huge disconnect with the natural world. A disconnect and distrust of who we are. \n\n\n\nBraiding Sweetgrass\n\n\n\nWe’ll explore this in the context of the book Braiding Sweetgrass. \n\n\n\nThis book is about accessing your natural self in connection with the world that surrounds us\, with the natural world. We will interlace this with enlightenment teachings\, and music and song. \n\n\n\nThese two ideas intersect easily because enlightenment teachings are basically saying: something’s gone wrong with your brain\, with my brain\, with our brains. Something has gone wrong with the way we perceive reality and enlightenment teachings and it’s because of the stories we’ve been told about who we are. \n\n\n\nNative wisdom says\, “Look. Touch the ground. This is how the people can live.” \n\n\n\nEnlightenment says\, “Let’s scour ourselves clean down to a point of zero so we can see clearly.” \n\n\n\nThese two easily intersect because we live on the land and it can teach us if we silence the dream of separation. Awakening traditions say the thing to do first is find that single “nothing” point inside. The point that was there before confusing conditionings took root. Find the point in a way that you can hold with a solid confidence. The build a new life from this point. \n\n\n\nWe can come to this from a different direction by looking at the wisdom teachings of Native Americans. Of the people here on the American continent\, on turtle Island. \n\n\n\nIn the book Braiding Sweetgrass Robin Wall Kimmerer talks about changing our perception from that of being a consumer of commodities to a gift world. Changing to a world where the entire world is gifted to us and we are participants with all beings gifting back. New breakthroughs in neuroscience are now giving us insights into the brain that we can use to return to our true being. It fits perfectly into song and dance and is delightfully fun. \n\n\n\nWe’ll use science\, story\, movement and song to enliven our full brain experience where insight and awakening occurs. DESCRIPTION:How do you come up with a question? Does it matter what we ask? \n\n\n\nI would say it’s best not to ask about hypotheticals. You want to try to make any question asked relevant to yourself not other people. If you ask a question like “How could you go with this philosophy”\, it doesn’t really apply. \n\n\n\nThat’s basically the fruit of a of a Q&A session\, or a satsong as I sometimes give them. The should pertain to you. It should be relevant to you. Not hypothetical\, or about other people\, or about the world. It could be about how you interact with the world but not about the world minus you. \n\n\n\nSo try to make the the the questions relevant to yourself. But if you you may have a question simply arise ask it. Like a question on ceasing to do or my understanding of nonduality. You may be finding there’s an obstacle or a pitfall or you don’t quite understand. How to do something\, how to put it in practice\, or how to understand something. The question arises as we talk. DESCRIPTION:Second in our series with Non-dulaity teacher Eric Putkonen \n\n\n\nSaturday morning July 16\, 2022\, 10am MT \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCeasing to do \n\n\n\nI tend to talk a lot about ceasing to do because it is helpful to minimize our volitional action. Basically this “me” that is constantly trying to do just reinforces the feeling of a “me” trying to do something and get somewhere. \n\n\n\nThis ceasing to do can start in very very simplistic ways. We typically do so much more than is even necessary. I mean\, if you just check your own posture for example. If you’re sitting or standing perfectly upright it requires very little muscle to stay upright\, but if you’re leaning we have to do a lot to fight gravity or we’ll collapse. \n\n\n\nSo in the basic idea of ceasing to do you’re trying to minimize what it would take to stay up. This puts you perfectly in alignment\, posture wise\, for gravity to to keep you up without falling over. \n\n\n\nIt also would mean\, as some zen people will talk\, about doing one thing at a time. If you’re sitting\, you’re just sitting. You’re not doing anything. Likewise\, if you’re mowing the lawn – just mow the lawn. No more. No less. You don’t need to be thinking about what you need that to do afterwards. You don’t need to think about what transpired earlier dredging up the past. You don’t need a daydream. You can just turn it into a walking meditation\, where you’re just walking and you happen to be pushing this mower along. \n\n\n\nLikewise with Tai Chi\, dance movements\, whatever you’re doing. Just do that\,. Be 100 devoted to the feeling experiencing of just that\, and not doing anything else. Not referring to past\, future daydreaming. Not doing extra things. I mean\, if you’re doing a specific dance movement or Tai Chi movement for example you don’t need to add an extra twirl in there when it’s not supposed to be in there. \n\n\n\nNo extraneous movements. No extraneous thinking. SUMMARY:Zoom dance - Non Duality
DESCRIPTION:First in our series with Eric Putkonen \n\n \nWhat is non-duality? \nNon-duality is covered in a lot of different traditions. It comes from Advaita Vedanta primarily\, because what we call non-duality is derived from Advaita. which means “Not two.” But other traditions study it as well. Buddhism\, Sufis and Dervishes talk about non-duality. \nIn a nutshell\, poetically\, you could say there is just oneness\, there is no other\, there is no second. This however brings up the idea of a me\, an individuality\, with a center of some kind. That’s two. It is but an illusion obscuring the fact that there’s just oneness there’s unicity only. \nNon-duality can be challenging for people who are studying it because it feels like you’re always being told no. No… it’s not that. No it’s not this. \nIt is hard to grasp for a lot of people because most spiritual traditions\, and the way we interact in the world\, is from a dualistic separation. A “me” with a point of view. There’s always a “me” trying to get somewhere. There’s a “me” trying to get something. There’s a “me” trying to become. In non-duality\, instead\, you’re just realizing you’re that and seeing that the false is false. \nSo you’re seeing that this “me” isn’t who and what you are.
